Reading this blog on our mobile phone, computer, or laptop under a bright light with a fan over our heads, not many of us realize the importance of electricity. Have you ever stopped and thought about the aspects of your life that would have been impossible without electricity? If you haven’t, now is not a bad time to do it. Lay back, take a look around yourself, what do you see?
Can you see your television? Your mobile phone? Have you looked at your computer? How does any of this run? What is the power source that runs all of these devices of necessity in this day and age? The answer is simple, electricity.
Close the light for a bit, what do you see? Unless you have a torch, there is nothing, darkness. That is what our world would be like if we took electricity from it. Imagine you are planning to work on your handwritten assignment one day and have all your resource and books ready to use, when suddenly the electricity goes off.
All your plans down the drain…what can you do in such a situation? Nothing if you aren’t already prepared for it. Electricity outage has become a very real issue and we can neither predict nor control if and when it happens. What we can do though is lessen the inconvenience of having to deal with it.
Here are a few tips to help you negotiate a power outage without feeling inconvenient.
- Always keep a handy flashlight with you both at work and at home. Since flashlights run on batteries they can provide you with an emergency backup light option.
- If you are working of the laptop or computer, make sure you save the spreadsheet or document you are working on by keeping an uninterrupted power supply (UPS) on standby for power (and don`t forget to buy batteries from BatterySharks)
- Make sure that the external power source that you have can be kept in touch with using your cell phone.
- If you are running out of battery power on your devices use your car’s battery to charge your devices by attaching a DC inverter to the battery.
- If you are in an emergency situation with no light. The last thing you’d want is to scramble all over the place to find batteries for radios and flashlights. To avoid this, make sure you keep enough stock on hand and stored in easily accessible locations.
- If you are not a fan of keeping many sizes of batteries stored up, make sure you use devices that make use of the same size batteries, such as AAA etc.
- Make sure you charge the car’s battery by keeping the car running.
Here are some advices if you have safety alarms:
A lot of alarm systems will already have a battery back-up to ensure they store entry codes and other system information in the event of a power interruption. If you have any concerns regarding your alarm system it is best to contact the installer.
- Electronic locking systems should automatically switch to unlocked if the electricity supply is interrupted, they should do this for safety reasons.
- If you know or have any concerns that a power cut is going to happen you might want to make alternative security arrangements.
- When electricity is restored, it is best to double check that all the equipment has returned to it’s previous locking state.
- It’s best to contact the installer or maintenance company for more specific details about how your own alarm may be affected during a power cut.
The threat of no electricity may not be too common, yet it can happen anytime. If you are looking to keep yourself away from wilderness, a solar charger and batteries, a car’s battery and an inverter is a must for you. While these may not give you enough power to watch a Blu-Ray DVD on your 63 inch TV. It will nonetheless give you light and help you communicate with the rest of the world.
Such an essential substance as electricity is very important for everyday life. It ensures the normal vital activity of each of us at any time of the day.
